Zouma a beacon of hope at the back

Kurt Zouma is a genuine beacon of hope as West Ham look to challenge the teams at the top-end of the Premier League table.

The former Chelsea defender made his full debut in the Premier League against Manchester United and was genuinely brilliant, barring one slip at the end of the game that saw him mistime a tackle on Cristiano Ronaldo in the penalty area.

Zouma was superb both on the ground and in the air, commanding the backline and ensuring that United were limited in the chances they had; Ronaldo’s goal came about as a result of Lukasz Fabianski failing to hold his initial volley.

Boss David Moyes has confirmed that he is hoping to challenge at the top end of the league and to do that, you need a top class defender.

Per WhoScored, Zouma had 46 touches of the ball; he completed 27 of his 29 attempted passes; he won the most aerial duels of any player on the pitch; he made an astonishing 12 clearances; he also made two interceptions.

This was an absolutely titanic display at the heart of the Hammers defence and he is so good, he ensures that the rest of the defence raise their game to his level.

He already looks a snip at around £30m.
