Zouma
Kurt Zouma blamed nobody but West Ham for the shocking defeat at Villa Park this afternoon and put it down to individual errors.
This was the first time in 16 games that David Moyes has lost to the Villains and it was one heck of a way to lose.
After going two down, Jarrod Bowen’s goal looked likely to set up a comeback but it wasn’t to be and the captain was not a happy man afterwards.
The home team had taken a two goal lead through Douglas Luiz’s double – one from the penalty spot following a poor Alvarez challenge.
And after the break Ollie Watkins and Leon Bailey scored two more to humble a very poor hammers performance on a day when our best was demanded.
Zouma disappointed with errors
Zouma admitted it had been a poor game from us and was bitterly disappointed admitting there was no way we could take three points home on the back of the display.
He said: “It wasn’t a good game from us today. We made a few individual mistakes and you know you get punished for that at this level.
“I think Aston Villa were clinical today, they managed to score on our mistakes and I don’t think we played as we wanted to, unfortunately.
“That happens and we need to bounce back very quickly.”
“We pushed and had a few set pieces and a few chances here and there, but that third goal maybe killed us, especially with how it happened, but that’s football.
“As I said they managed to be clinical and they did a good job today.”
To be fair I thought Villa looked very very good. Strong in midfield and set up narrow using full backs wide, with Watkins really sharp and mobile, they always had options. Kudus looked very pacy and clever, yes it would be great to see him full game for Antonio very soon. Also Emerson banned next up needs solving too
