Zouma: It’s even worse news

|

West Ham are understood to be fearing that Kurt Zouma‘s ankle injury will keep him out for the rest of the season.

Having only returned relatively recently the defender has again been hit by a serious ankle problem which could see him on the sidelines for the most important run in possible.

Having confirmed he wouldn’t play in Thursday’s Europa League quarter-final second leg at Lyon the club are now fearing the worst

West Ham reportedly fear that Kurt Zouma could be out for the remainder of the season

‘The France international defender is to remain in London for further tests and examination on the ankle injury,’ they said in a statement without giving a return date which according to our insiders  may be out of the question this season.

So once again  – pointless though it is – we find ourselves discussing whether an extra central defender should have been drafted into the squad in the winter although at his best Issa Diop is a good replacement.
Injury either to him of Craig Dawson would present us with a serious problem as we continue the battle for sixth place although we will be hoping to take another step towards European qualification with a victory on tomorrow and a place in the semi final of the Europa Cup.

Zouma has made 27 appearances in all competitions for West Ham so far this season.

Something that really angers me about this was the unpunished scissor tackle, that caused it

Rotate players we’ve got – Yarmo, Vlasic and Diop are capable, Ashby and Longelo can do anything Fredericks and Masuaku can, Alese and Baptiste are gagging for minutes, Okoflex is worth subbing on. We keep scouting ’20 year old sensations’ in Europe, because they get games!!! The experience of Oxford, Cullen and now Coventry is telling our young players getting no first team time to look elsewhere.

We had the chance to bring in another central defender and didn’t, so let’s trust Moyes judgement and see where we finish up.

is this an issue of having a small squad and NOT rotating…?
IMHO Diop is a quality player in the making, he’s been off his game at times, but he has displayed all the attributes to be a top player.
In additional Alese and Baptiste have shown enough to be given game time… remember Reece Oxford??
