Zouma: It’s weird as me and Nobes call each other “skipper”

|

Kurt Zouma looks certain to return to the Hammers team as he dons the armband against Newcastle United.

Kurt missed the European match on Thursday but his form has remained outstanding all season at Premier League level and should Callum Wilson be named as part of the team facing him he will need to be at his absolute best.

He has said in the past how thrilled he is to be captain of a team and a squad within a club which has now described as “massive.”

He told the official site at www.whufc.com today that it was a hugely proud moment when he was told he was to wear the armband permanently adding that in fact all the players are captains!

He explained how all the guys talk to  each other in the same way and try to help each other and that as the official skipper he is just trying to do the best he can to make sure the boys are all pulling in the same direction.

He said: “I’ve got my teammates helping me all the time, and some more experienced players around me, so it’s all about the group and all moving in the same direction.”

He added: Every time I see Mark Noble now, he calls me ‘skipper’, which is weird because I also call him ‘skipper’!

Even if he is not playing any more, he is still the ‘skipper’ because he is Mr West Ham and is the main man here!

I get some advice from him, which is always good, and it’s good to have him around the place and at games, so he’s an important person for us.”
