Boleyn Ground flats plan in doubt

Newham Mayor Sir Robin Wales has hit out at Galliard homes plans to build 838 apartments on the former home of West Ham United.

“This initial offer from Galliard Homes is insulting, the developers need to drastically rethink this ridiculous offer and ensure it offers a good mixture of tenures including social, affordable and intermediate rents.” Sir Robin told the Newham Recorder.

The mayor  holds a season ticket at West Ham,  and has previously declared 35 gifts from the club over a three year period, mainly of hospitality.

The plans have also been criticised by local action group Friends of Queen’s Market for proposing 332 car parking spaces at a site expecting more than 2,000 residents.

The planning application will go to Newham council’s strategy and development committee, but no date has been set for a hearing.

There is a good chance that Galliard may need  to go back to the drawing board with their plans.
