The eagle-eyed among you may have noticed the section “Academy news” appear on the ClaretandHugh header as we approach the  new season.

And this reflects the growing importance of the academy to the club with prospects such as Declan Rice, Josh Cullen, Nathan Holland, Reece Burke, Quina and the other lads making their advance on the first team squad.

The Under 23 team landed promotion to Premier League Two Division One last season in a thrilling play-off at Newcastle and this season will be mixing it with the likes of a Chelsea, Arsenal, Man Utd, Man City and the rest.

These are exciting  times for the lads and the club as Academy boss Terry Westley oversees a group of youngsters who could end the long drought of home grown first teamers.

Terry told us: “They are enjoying their football and are in a good place at the moment. We all want to see our boys break through. We are all working at it very hard indeed.”

CandH will be bringing you team news and interviews during the course of the season as the lads kick off on one of the Academy’s most important seasons in a long time.
