The deal that has brought Ipswich Town left back Aaron Cresswell to West Ham cost the Premier League club a guaranteed £3.75 million.

But  well placed Upton Park insiders have tonight told ClaretandHugh exclusively within the last few minutes that the deal could eventually be worth £7 million to the Championship club.

Another £3.25 million could be added to the cost based on Cresswell’s Premier League starts according to our sources.

The Irons moved at breakneck speed today when the deal aimed at making Nice left back Timothee Kolodziejczak began to break down

A source said:”Nice wanted far too much and it was clear things couldn’t be sorted.”

The Hammers’ first move of the day was for  Norwich City’s Martin Olsson but when they were turned down  swooped on Creswell as ClaretandHugh foreshadowed yesterday.

Creswell is one of the Championship’s most highly regarded defenders having gained a place in last season’s PFA Team of the Year.

And our source said: “We are delighted. It’s a terrific deal. The manager has a preference for proven British players and we think we have a great deal.
