West Ham co chairman David Gold tonight admitted the board couldn’t have expected so quick a response to their summer “request” for more attacking football!

Much was made of the board’s “demands” for attacking football back in the summer but Gold – in an exclusive ClaretandHugh interview – wanted to clear things up.

Delighted with the performance against QPR this afternoon he said: “Let’s put the record straight – you can’t demand anything in this world and to say we demanded attacking football would be wrong.”

“We made it clear that’s the way we wanted to go and then set about sanctioning the arrival of players whom we knew would  play in that way.

“You hope that it will happen quickly but watching us play in such an exciting style is brilliant – no I didn’t think it would happen this quickly.

“It’s amazing after just a handful of games. It’s hard to express in words but it’s a fantastic feeling.

“The team are happy, the manager is happy, the board is happy but chiefly, the fans are happy.

“We are at last enjoying some good times – we all deserve it especially the fans who pay their hard-earned money to support the team.

“We have bought the players who can deliver for us and Sam Allardyce has put things together very quickly. But it is only half a dozen games and there’s a long season ahead.

“To look at the league table and see us a point behind Spurs and above Arsenal is fablous. Let’s all enjoy this moment.”
