Diop decision ages superbly

David Moyes’ decision to keep Issa Diop amid interest from Fulham has paid off!

The Frenchman has been a big target for the newly-promoted Londoners this summer.

The Irons told Fulham that they would need to receive a fee of £20m to sell Diop initially, but boss Moyes has since changed his mind on the deal, and it now looks likely Diop will remain with the club.

And after Nayef Aguerd limped out of the friendly defeat to Rangers, one has to say that Moyes’ caution has paid off.

The Hammers are continuing to sweat over his fitness, and having another option in defence makes sense.

Had Diop been allowed to leave earlier this summer, the centre-back options would now be Craig Dawson, Kurt Zouma and the still-recovering Angelo Ogbonna.

Having five centre-backs may look like overkill from the outside, but it has paid off just in case Aguerd is injured, and is going to miss that opening weekend clash with Manchester City.

Sometimes having a bit of a dither pays off!
