DON’T GET TOO EXCITED AC!

Andy Carroll really shouldn’t be getting over expectant  about a phone call from Brazil despite suggestions on breakfast TV programmes that he may be getting one from Roy Hodgson.

The Irons striker’s is of course on the World Cup squad standby list and heard his name thrown into the mix as a possible replacement should one be needed for to Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain – injured in the friendly against Ecuador last night in Florida.

The manager fears the Arsenal man may have suffered ligament damage and he will be scanned this morning!

Should Hodgson need to replace ‘The Ox’ he’s more likely to turn to either of the Manchester United pair, Tom Cleverley or Michael Carrick.

However, a couple of commentators threw Carroll’s name into the mix but it looks hugely unlikely.

On the possibility of perhaps having to select a replacement, Hodgson added: ‘When I have to cross that bridge, I’ll do that. At the moment I don’t know the extent of the injury. My hope is that Oxlade-Chamberlain will not be seriously injured.

He did ever so well and looked really sharp. It would be an enormous blow if we were to lose him, so I’d prefer to concentrate on the satisfaction and positivity I can take from the game.’
