Hughie Southon gave his take on the summer signings in another piece; here Dave Langton does the same.

It’s fair to say these haven’t gone well…

Lucas Paqueta – 5 – Barely shown his ability at West Ham. He’s playing deeper for Brazil at the World Cup than he does at the London Stadium, and he’s being relied upon to make magic happen in a claret and blue shirt. So far, he’s struggled, although there are hopes around his partnership with Gianluca Scamacca.

Gianluca Scamacca – 5 – Six goals but four of them have come in the Conference League. Nowhere near the same threat as Mikey Antonio, and looks to be second-choice when the Jamaica international is fit.

Nayef Aguerd – 2 – Injured in pre-season so has barely played any part. Looks good in the World Cup with Morocco so hopefully he can prove his worth once the season restarts.

Maxwel Cornet – 2 – Good player but barely given a shout by David Moyes. Deserved a goal at Chelsea but other than that, we’ve seen precious little.

Emerson – 5 – Clearly a rotation option and he looks generally fine. Still, not what we need to succeed Aaron Cresswell.

Thilo Kehrer – 1 – Disastrous. Not only has he made multiple mistakes leading to goals, he just looks wrong at right-back.

Flynn Downes – 6 – I like him. Looks an industrious, tidy player, but it’s a mystery that he can’t get into the team.

Alphonse Areola – 4 – He doesn’t look like the player we had in the Europa League last season.
