Gold: Irons have an edge on West Brom

David Gold believes the Irons will be in a totally different place mentally to West Brom when the two sides clash at the Hawthorns in the fifth round FA Cup clash.

The co chairman believes the club’s  points total frees them completely to concentrate on the job in hand rather than worry about league position.

But he believes the same is most certainly not true of Tony Pulis’ Baggies who may still be worrying about staying out of the relegation places.

Gold told ClaretandHugh: “We are really up for the Cup this year and can give it 100 per cent concentration.

The same may not be true of Tony Pulis and  who will surely be looking over his shoulder.

“We have the luxury of knowing we are safe and that should give us a big psychological advantage. If we drop a couple of points it is no where near as big a deal as West Brom doing the same.

“This is a wonderful opportunity for us to advance on Wembley. I want to finish the tie up there but if not we have no worries about bringing them back under the Upton Park lights for a replay.”
