Hammers new man sent on ‘gardening leave’

West Ham’s new head of recruitment in waiting Tony Henry – having resigned as Sunderland’s chief scout – cannot start work with the Irons until November!
ClaretandHugh understands that Henry is on ‘gardening leave’ from the the Black Cats under the terms of a contract clause which states he must serve out a six month notice period.
The Hammers had  hoped to have him installed in time to take an active role in the summer transfer activity but ‘gardening leave’ will prohibit him from doing so.
The point of such a move is to ensure that clubs and firms are not harmed by new allegiances which could cause problems in a competitive market place.
It’s a blow for the Irons who were keen to get their new man involved in the current summer market.
