West Ham are hoping Andy Carroll and Andre Ayew can form the “little and large” dream partnership.

Ayew – the  club’s record signing  at £20 million – is in the running for a place in the team against West Brom and according to co chairman David Gold could be the man to capitalise on the flick ons and knock downs provided by AC.

Although the big man is not 100 per cent certain to start at the weekend,Gold believes that potentially an interesting partnership is in prospect.

He told ClaretandHugh: We haven’t seen the best of Ayew by a long chalk after his injury but a partrnership of that type could be potent.”

With England boss Gareth Southgate due at the London Stadium on Saturday afternoon to run the rule over AC, the big man will be desperate to make an appearance.

And Gold said: “When he is fit Andy Carroll offers a totally different option and in my opinion would be an England regular.

Strikers like him and Zlatan Ibrhamovic present very different issues for defenders and when teamed up with great poacher partners are seriously difficult to contain.”
