Irons cool it on City target

Speculation that West Ham are set to launch a bid for Manchester City and former England defender Micah Richards was tonight described as “optimistic and imaginative at best.”

Richards has been regularly linked with the Hammers for several months, along with Arsenal.

But ClaretandHugh has just been told:  “He’s just one of many on the radar. It’s probably a five per cent shout.”

And with the pressure on to provide a more adventurous style of football Richards’ strength and speed makes him an attractive option.

But it’s clear that with agents and managers away at the World Cup and the season starting later this year, there’s less urgency in these early transfer moves.
