ClaretandHugh readers will have known several days ago that the Irons were moving heaven and earth to bring Alex Song to the club on a permanent deal.

We reported on Monday that our sources reckoned we had a 50/50 chance of landing a player who is our No 1 priority target next summer.

Now Irons co chairman David Gold has confirmed our story on Twitter when declaring:” “We would like Alex to join us on a permanent basis.”

Since DG made the announcement we have discovered that the Irons are ready to go to £15 million plus to land Song  and may be prepared to pay in excess of £80k a week on personal terms.

However, the big worry isn’t Galatasaray – who have been linked with the Barcelpona star since he decided to come to the east end – but Arsenal.

We were told: “Alex is enjoying life with us but there’s a feeling that he may believe there’s unfinished business in north London. We just have everything crossed that we keep the field to ourselves as there’s no way he will play outside of the capital. His wife Olivia loves the city.

“In the end he will go to the club that offers him the best deal – it’s a very simple world really!”.
