Irons so unlucky but Sakho’s a record breaker

Manchester United 2 West Ham 1

Battling West Ham fully deserved at least a share of the spoils but simply couldn’t break down 10-man United after Wayne Rooney was sent off in the second half.

Rooney had opened the scoring  in five minutes finishing off well after a run and cross from Rafael.

And Robin van Persie doubled the lead midway through the half firing into the corner from a Falcao pass after Alex Song had been robbed of possession in his own half.

But the home side’s frailties returned to haunt them once again as David de Gea came and missed Downing’s corner, allowing Enner Valencia to head against the bar and Diafra Sakho nodded home the rebound.

That goal ended a 26 year record held by Leroy Rosenior who scored in his fiorst three Irons game – this was Sakho’s fouttyh.

For all their attacking brilliance United still looked vulnerable and the Irons took charge apart from a Falcao shot the home side offered little.

Sakho tested De Gea’s with a fierce volley as United looked more and more suspect.

Luis Van Gaal brought on Darren Fletcher on for Falcao after West Ham sent Carlton Cole on and looked to press home their numerical advantage.

Sakho hit the side netting and Valencia’s saw his deflected shot fly just wide as the Irons hit United with all they had.

Nolan turned in Carl Jenkinson’s cross in the 89th minute, but linesman Andrew Garratt flagged for offside.
