Macca exit would pose Big Sam question

Neil McDonald’s possible departure from West Ham is being seen as the prelude to a  Sam Allardyce’s exit at the end of this campaign.

News that ‘Macca’ could be on his way back to the club that sacked him a few years back – Carlisle United –  hasn’t exactly surprised club insiders.

For there has been a widespread view for a long time that the manager will need to have a truly spectacular season to earn another contract which not many truly see as very likely.

And that may well be what is focusing the assistant manager’s mind as he perhaps looks beyond an immediate Upton Park future.

One source gave a pithy summing -up shared by many saying: “The general view is that  Macca is looking after business as new contracts here would be very much in the balance.”

The 48 year old MacDonald’s move to the north-east would see him much closer to his family which is also being mentioned as  another possible factor in his  Carlisle United thinking

Earlier this year McDonald spoke to the Newham Recorder saying  “I want to have another go at management, I am capable of doing that, but I am really, really enjoying what I am doing at the moment.

“If Sam was to leave for any reason I would certainly want the West Ham job. Anybody would want to be a manager of such a fantastic football club. But I am happy in the position I am in at the moment.”
