Over half of those voting in the ClaretandHugh poll asking whether West Ham’s three  African stars – Alex Song, Diafra Sakho and Chiek Koutaye – should go to the African Cup of nations have said “No.”

A total of 56.52 per cent want the lads to stay at home whilst 41.03 are happy for them to go and represent their countries.

A fierce debate was played out on the ClaretandHugh forum with many becoming angry that the poll was held at all making it clear that the highest honour a player could achieve was to represent his country.

Others, however, still entertain fears of the ebola threat  whilst being unhappy that Diafra Sakho suffered a mysterious back injury whilst allegedly on the treatment table when away with Senegal.

That led to him missing games for the Irons and may well have influenced the poll’s final outcome.
