West Ham are keen to sign Southend first choice keeper Daniel Bentley according to his girlfriend on social media today.

The wannabe WAG posted ‘West Ham want to sign my boyfriend, Premier League here we come!’

Shrimpers goalkeeper Daniel Bentley is also being considered for an England under 21 call-up after he was recently watched by scouts from the international set up at Carlisle United last Saturday.

Basildon-born Bentley began his career with Arsenal,  aged eight only to be released by the Gunners in 2008, before he was snapped up by Southend. Bentley played for their Under-18s before he was handed a professional contract in the summer of 2009.

A loan spell at Braintree Town was followed by a big step up  taking over from the injured Paul Smith.

Southend  United manager Phil Brown previously dismissed speculation in July linking goalkeeper Daniel Bentley with a move to West Ham saying

““I heard the rumour and wanted to check it out so I gave Sam a call in New Zealand, you have to do these things to cover yourself, especially if you’re going to lose your first choice goalkeeper.

“However, Sam never made any reference to wanting to bring Daniel in.”
