Our last FA Cup quarter final match was played five years ago tomorrow. Under the disastrous management of Avram Grant the Hammers lost 2-1 to a Stoke side at the Britannia. Former Hammer, Matty Etherington won a penalty for Stoke after he claimed contact from James Tomkins but he failed to convert it past Robert Green. Sloppy defending by the Hammers allowed Huth to get a an early goal for Stoke. Frédéric Piquionne scored the only West Ham goal of the day with the help of his arm unseen by the officials but went off injured shortly afterwards. West Ham were denied a penalty decision and hit the woodwork close to the end of the game.

West Ham team that day: Robert Green, Manuel Da Costa, James Tomkins, Matthew Upson, Wayne Bridge, Thomas Hitzlsperger, Mark Noble, Victor Obinna, Scott Parker, Carlton Cole, Frederic Piquionne

Substitutions:
Jonathan Spector for Frederic Piquionne 35 mins
Robbie Keane for Victor Obinna 68 mins
Zavon Hines for Mark Noble 81 mins

Un-used subs Ruud Boffin, Danny Gabbidon, Lars Jacobsen, Luis Boa Morte

We will bring you more FA Cup sixth round memories from yesteryear in the run up to Sunday’s quarter final against Manchester United.
