The recent poll conducted by 16 independent websites into Sam Allardyce’s future at the club is understood to have  concentrated minds in the Upton Park boardroom.

Co-owners David Gold and David Sullivan have been giving the results – which was a 77 per cent plus for the boss to leave the club this summer – considerable thought.

Indeed the organisers sent the result to them to Sullivan soon after  the poll closed.

ClaretandHugh has learned that the initial announcement that such a poll would be held was viewed with no undue alarm by the board.

But there has been surprise that over 13,000, 27 per cent of whom were season ticket holders, delivered such an overwhelming verdict against the boss.

That may account for a local radio interview, given by Gold earlier this week and widely covered on other website, in which he was at pains to defend the manager, claiming he had done everything asked of him.

One source told ClaretandHugh said: “Initially there wasn’t too much worry but the size of the poll appears to have concentrated minds and the end of season response  to Sam’s situation will be interesting as a result.”
