Sam’s claims get short shrift

Manager Sam Allardyce’s claims that the development of a new attacking style contributed to two shock defeats in New Zealand have gone down like a lead balloon inside  Upton Park.

Whilst Newcastle United were having little trouble overcoming Wellington Phoenix and Sydney FC, the Hammers were outplayed and at times outclassed by players considered vastly their inferiors.

The Irons boss was quick to declare that the team was adjusting to new demands which had contributed to the problems.

However, a top West Ham source was deeply cynical on the statement telling Claretandhugh: “Hmm, that’s a strange piece of reasoning given we still played with one  striker, same formation and scored virtually no goals.

“Obviously it’s too early to make any serious judgments but clearly things are being watched carefully.”
