The Irons and the words ‘injury hit’ are becoming a tad too familiar but sadly that’s the case again today.

Andy Carroll, Kevin Nolan, Carl Jenkinson and Matt Jarvis have been joined on the list by James Collins and there’s a  doubt over Diafra Sakho (above) who has ‘tweaked’ his back.

If the position concerning the new striker hasn’t been overcooked that leaves Carlton Cole presumably leading the attack as manager Sam Allardyce has regularly mentioned that Enner Valencia played 120 minutes in midweek.

Southampton manager Ronald Koeman may be withouht midfielder Lloyd Isgrove who lasted just 30 minutes against Millwall on Tuesday but has an otherwise fit squad.

Likely Irons line-up: Adrian; Demel, Reid, Tomkins, Cresswell; Downing, Noble, Kouyate , Vaz Te , Zarate, Cole
