Valencia wonder goal the cherry on great display

Hull City 2 West Ham 2

A world class goal from Enner Valencia and a top all round attacking display from the Irons will live long in the memory.

They came away with a point which probably should have been three for a display which was light years away from the shocking defeat by Southampton.

Valencia and the hard working and gifted Diafra Sakho were excellent in the second half in particular as we twice came from behind.

The hosts had opened the scoring on 39 minutes when from Elmohamdy’s fine cross, Hernandez headed home a fine goal.

But the Irons were level soon after the interval when Valencia – with seemingly nothing on – shifted the ball right in front of the defence and from 20 yards and a standing position slammed home an unstoppable shot .

But almost inevitably, recent departure Mo Diame put the home side ahead when latching onto Aaron Cresswell’s shocking throw-in and advanced on a sleeping defence to sidefoot past Adrian.

The Hammers though showing enormous grit grabbed the second equaliser two minutes later when from Downing’s low ball in, Sakho turned the ball goalwards and Davies could only help it over the line.

The game ebbed and flowed after that with the Hammers having chances through a Noble deflected Noble drive and a well saved Sakho header.

But they missed out on three points at the end when Dawson somehow turned a fine close-in Valencia header over the bar.

A great game and hopefully proof that the manager has thrown off his defensive  mindset and decided to give the owners and fans what they want.

He picked a serious attacking team and was well rewarded – well done to him…it was a feast of entertainment and absolutely no complaints except we should have had the third.
