Manu Lanzini’s goal will be remembered for a very long time indeed and maybe was close to the one scored by Paolo Di Canio against Wimbldon all those years ago.

Technically it wasn’t as great, but nonetheless a fantastic effort which will be very hard indeed to forget and one which the player saw in the same terms as that scored against Spurs by Pedro Obiang.

It’s the first piece of genius we have seen from the midfielder in a long, long time and will ensure that he now remains very much in the manager’s thinking as he bids to pressurise Said Benrahma and possibly Pablo Fornals for his place over forthcoming games.

He may become a super sub but however the boss sees it, a fully fit and in-form Lanzini is a major bonus to any team as we push on with a campaign which is starting to look very bright indeed.

Manchester City now stand in the way of us taking our unbeaten run to four but, with all the confidence in the world, Manu declares himself and the squad ready to get a result.

Speaking at https://www.whufc.com/news/articles/2020/october/18-october/manuel-lanzini-it-was-just-pedro-obiangs-rocket the Argentinian said: “We know Man City, who we face next week, is a very big team, a good team. We need to keep going like this and I think if we play like this we have an opportunity to get something from that game too.”

And of his goal he added:  “Do you remember when we played Tottenham and Pedro Obiang scored a goal like a rocket? It was similar to that one and it was fantastic because we were 3-0 behind and we turned it around.

“It was perfect. I’ve wanted this for a long time. I am ready now, I am 100%. I want to help the team and this was the moment.

“I love the fans, I love the Club, I’ve spent a lot of years here and it’s like my second home. We have a big squad, I am waiting for my opportunity and it was a fantastic goal.”

“It’s good,” he added. “It’s always good to score goals, and always good to score against Tottenham. Scoring against big teams is fantastic for me.”
