Slaven Bilic headed straight out of yesterday’s two and a half hour review of the season meeting at Sullivan Towers and into a hospital bed.
With his position in absolutely no danger, the manager was able to relax as the meeting centred on the need for a striker or two plus a right back before heading into surgery tomorrow for a hip operation.
He will be out before the end of the week and back in action in plenty of time to oversee pre-season training after leading the the team to 11th position.
That was the board’s meeting minimum requirement and fell in line with the financial plan in place for the 2017-18 season.
However, Bilic had been told his position was safe a couple of weeks ago once the club was safe from relegation and yesterday’s afternoon meeting centred on targets rather than anything else.
ClaretandHugh was told: “It was all highly agreeable and as much a bonding exercise as anything else. The priorities are a right back and a couple of strikers. We are getting on with it and Slav’s hospital stay will only be quite short.”
