Allardyce has Carroll WBA anxieties

Sam Allardyce has raised the spectre of launching Carlton Cole into action against West Brom tomorrow evening.

David Gold last night explained on ClaretandHugh that he believed the game  would be ideal for the record signing as he continues his recovery but it seems Allardyce is not so sure.

Carroll’s fitness will be assessed today after playing his second game of the season against Newcastle on Saturday with Allardyce saying: “I’ll have to see whether Andy has the energy to play.”

He added: “When you are just two games into your season, you don’t want to risk another injury.”

However, that doesn’t appear to be the main concern and although he showed some agreement with Gold that the player’s fitness can only improve, he returned to another consistent worry.

He said: “I do worry that he has no fear and throws himself into tackles. Sometimes, not sensing danger leads to more injuries.”

It seem unlikely however, that Sam, despite the words of warning, will leave him on the bench and start with Coie but as long-suffering Irons understand, stranger things have been known.
