Sam Allardyce either talks a great game or he genuinely believes he’s going nowhere!

After the desperate 1-0 defeat by Spurs this afternoon and a fresh wave of fan anger, the bookies favourite to become the fist managerial casualty of the season – gave his reasons why he didn’t think it would happen.

Questioned in the post-match press conference on his position, he said: ” “If they’re going to do it after one game they might as well have done it at the end of last season,” .

“Why wait until now? Why do the whole pre-season we’ve done, create what we’ve tried to create and buy what we’ve tried to buy under my stewardship and then do it after one game?”

Part of the answer obviously is that  the owners are not known as having quick trigger fingers.

And ClaretandHugh has been told on several occasions that Allardyce will face his moment of truth after half a dozen games.

But defeat at the hands of Crystal Palace next weekend could change the agenda — these are dark days indeed for Sam Allardyce.
