“West Ham are going to finish down towards the bottom of the league, they’re not a particularly good team.”

This was brought to my attention by ClaretandHugh Facebook member James Milne and we are very happy to reprint it here for all of you and Mr Lawrenson

Match verdict

Irons 2 Liverpool 0

That truly was a performance to die for – outstanding in every area of the pitch – from a set of players who wanted it as badly as any Irons team I can recall …and perhaps even more.

From Adrian right through to Carroll were were immense. I can’t find the words to express how awesome West Ham United were, are and will become. That was extraordinary.

It’s as impossible to name a man of the match and I’m afraid James Collins, Michail Antonio and Mark Noble will have to share it on this occasion – and even that doesn’t sound fair.

On top of all that was the return of Dimi Payet in the second half which saw him skipping round defenders, releasing Cresswell to cross for what should have been Andy Carroll’s second goal of the game and setting up Cheik Kouyate for a late shot which was saved by Mingolet.

Antonio was non stop power, pace and purpose and his thumping header from a beautiful Enner Valencia cross to send us in leading 1-0 on the break. The boy was incredible all afternoon, chasing down everything and surely making a Victor Moses League return impossible right now.

Carroll tied things up after the break with a crashing header from another amazing cross – this time from Mark Noble and for all their possession Liverpool were out of the game – put there by a Hammers team who had nothing but good things to offer all afternoon.

Other Special mentions: James Collins gave Benteke nothing – shutting the Belgian out from the start.

Manu Lanzini was amazing until leaving the pitch with an injury we are told amounts to no more than a sore tendon

Andy Carroll scared the living daylights out of a dodgy defence

Mark Noble read the game brilliantly throughout and used the ball well

Dimi Payet was quite thrilling and there’s so much more to come

There’s a feel and a mood about this team when its playing to max. You just know we won’t be beaten and that it is only a matter of time before we score.

Losing is a feeling which left the building a long time ago.

What times to be a Hammer – thanks Slav, thanks lads, thanks Davids. I’m in a kind of dreamland.
