Andre Ayew was unable to help Ghana to victory in the third round of the World Cup CAF qualifiers against Congo on Friday.

The Black Stars escaped a shock defeat at the hands of the visitors, as Atletico Madrid’s Thomas Partey salvaged a point for the West Africans with an 85th minute equalizer. The result means Ghana stay third in CAF’s Group E having garnered just two points from three matches thus far.

Should they fail to win in the return leg on Tuesday, they won’t be representing Africa at Russia next year. Ayew put in a dismal performance against the group’s bottom-most and weakest side, getting withdrawn with 25 minutes to go.

Ayew is yet to add to his 14-goal tally for Ghana since the qualifiers started. The 27-year-old has just 6 goals in 28 league appearances for West Ham, a far cry from the 12 goals he returned in 34 league games for Swansa

Ayew’s performance was heavily criticized by Ghanaian twitter users, with some demanding that he retires from international duty as soon as possible.
