Andy Carroll should return from injury in time for the first home game at the London Stadium against Huddersfield Slaven Bilic has revealed. Carroll missed the end of the last league campaign with a groin problem.

Slaven Bilic told reporters he had hoped the 28-year-old would be fit for the third match at Newcastle after missing the first two clashes at Manchester United and Southampton.

But he has been told the risk would be too great and the match on September 11 is a more realistic target. The injury news is more encouraging about skipper Mark Noble. He limped off with a toe injury in the 1-0 pre-season first leg defeat to Werder Bremen on Friday night. But the knock is not too serious he should be fit within a week.

In other injury news, Manuel Lanzini is expected to be fully fit by the start of the Premier League after picking up a knee injury in training but a hospital scan revealed the knock was not too serious and the player has remained in Germany in the gym building up his fitness.

Michail Antonio is back at rush green working on his recovery from hamstring surgery in May. He will miss the first game or two of the season but is expected back for West Ham’s first home game. Bilic says on Antonio “He [Antonio] is ahead of the plan. The plan is for him to miss the first game of the season.”

Winston Reid will resume full training next week. He told WHUFC.com yesterday “Hopefully in the next week or so I should be back, which we were sort of aiming for.

“Generally, the rehab has been really good and the surgery has fixed the problem, which is the most important thing. I’ll be able to go out there and play pain-free, which is a blessing.

Diafra Sakho has only just resumed training with the first team in Germany. Two days ago he said “Good news. Diafra Sakho should start training with the first team squad in the next day or so. Good luck Diafra. dg” He should also be fit by the start of the Premier League season.
