West Ham’s Michail Antonio has been shortlisted for the EA Sports Premier League Player of the Month award for July.

The No30 scored eight goals in just seven appearances in July, firing the Hammers to safety with a game to spare.

After moving into a lone centre forward role on the Premier League’s restart in June, Antonio has been in outstanding form, not only scoring goals but leading the line superbly.

The month opened with the thrilling 3-2 win over Chelsea at London Stadium on 1 July, where Antonio scored West Ham’s second-half equaliser before assisting Andriy Yarmolenko’s last-minute winner. Four days later, he opened the scoring in the 2-2 draw at Newcastle United.

On Saturday 11 July, Antonio enjoyed the best day of his professional career, scoring all four goals in a 4-0 victory at Norwich City – a volley, two headers and a close-range finish – that greatly boosted West Ham’s chances of staying up.

Six days later, he was at it again, opening the scoring in another huge home win, this time over Watford, by latching onto Pablo Fornals’ pass and firing past Ben Foster at London Stadium.

And a memorable month was complete when Antonio reached ten goals for the season for the first time in his West Ham career by converting a penalty in the 1-1 draw at Manchester United on 22 July that made the Irons mathematically safe.

In announcing Antonio’s nomination, the Premier League said: “The attacker scored eight goals, including all four in a victory at Norwich, and also produced crucial strikes in a draw at Man Utd and win over Chelsea to lead West Ham to safety.”
