Arthur Masuaku has apologised on the club’s official website after he was sent off for spitting in yesterday’s 2-0 loss at Wigan.

Masuaku told WHUFC.com “I want to say sorry for my actions on Saturday. I let down my team-mates, the manager, coaches, board and the fans. I am very sad because the manager and coaches have put a lot of faith in me but I will work very hard to try and win that back. It was in the heat of the moment and out of character for me. I know it was totally unacceptable and I will learn from the first red card of my career.”

Masuaku will receive the standard two-week wage fine for receiving a red card which will cost him around £50,000. Graeme Howlett from KUMB.com has suggested the club should donate that fine to Isla Caton fund for the 3-year-old West Ham fan with a rare form of cancer. The fund to send the young Hammers fan to the USA for treatment reached £139,000 just £61,000 short of their £200,000 target.

Graeme told his Twitter followers “A real opportunity for West Ham to right a couple of wrongs here. Fine Masuaku two weeks wages and send it to Isla’s fight”
