At last – reasons to hope for ourselves and football

We are going into the 46th day without football and if we are honest the game has become something of an irrelevancy giving the oppressive and fearsome nature of our lives during that time.

However, there may, at last, be signs of hope that we can look forward to a less anxious period ahead and that the players may be returning to training ahead of a possible restart.

The deaths don’t give a true perspective as they are hospital-based only but that they fell by over 200 yesterday is good news even among the biggest pessimists.

West Ham – like every other club – is struggling financially in a big way right now and at some point, the government is set to ease restrictions which could include the possibility of behind closed doors games.

They will also be aware that an anxious and worried population needs some release and that TV sport is a key player in that.

It is understandable that some say football is the last thing in the world on their minds but its return would see a big re-surge in interest and hope that life is normalising.

Obviously, until there’s a vaccine nothing will be at it was!

Having said that it will come as no surprise – should the figures continue to bring hope – that there could be some relaxation of restrictions, maybe even after the weekend according to political ITK Robert Peston.

And that could – again with the aforementioned positions on reducing figures in mind – lead to a three-week ‘pre-season’ from the date of the next government review on May 7.

And that would open up the possibility of an end of May or early June re-start and even more importantly – a far more relaxed atmosphere across the nation.
