BBC match of the day presenter Alan Shearer  says that the challenge from Manchester United right-back Aaron Wan-Bissaka on West Ham defensive midfielder Tomas Soucek inside the penalty box was a definate foul.

While analysing video replays the challenge from United defender Wan-Bissaka on West Ham ace Soucek inside the Red Devils’ penalty area, the Newcastle United legend Shearer suggested that the 23-year-old English defender got very lucky. The incident happened in the 68th minute when the score in the Premier League game was 1-1 and could have changed the game.

Wan-Bissaka went in with a sliding challenge on Soucek but referee Martin Atkinson actually gave a free kick to United.

Dermot Gallagher also believed West Ham should have been awarded an earlier penalty v Manchester United when the game was leve

It was one of many penalty decisions Atkinson was forced to make denying Cristiano Ronaldo on three challenges.

Premier League match officials have confirmed that  Ronaldo can feel hard done by after he was denied several penalties at the London Stadium on Sunday.

The Manchester United star scored his side’s equaliser against West Ham before Jesse Lingard’s winner.

Prior to the decisive goal however Ronaldo saw three penalty appeals waved away by Martin Atkinson.

He clashed with Kurt Zouma but it was an incident with Vladimir Coufal that has been raised.

The man in the middle was not advised to consult the VAR monitor meaning his original decision stood.

However, according to The Times, at their fortnightly meeting referees were told that a spot kick would have been a better call on the pitch.
