Benrahma’s bizarre rule-break

Said Benrahma bizarrely broke a major rule of the game during the Hammers’ 1-0 defeat to Liverpool at Anfield.

The Algeria international came off the bench just after the hour mark and made a real impact, creating chances from the left flank, and tormenting the Reds defence.

However, The Sun has noted that after coming off the bench, Benrahma did not wear shin pads.

IFAB – the International Football Association Board – has set out the laws of the game and the winger contravened law 4.2, which states that players must wear shin pads throughout the game; if they come off, the player must replace them at the next break in play.

Pictures from the broadcast show that Benrahma took his shin pads off around the 70 minute mark and did not replace them.

It remains to be seen if the Hammers star will be punished for the breach, but it is more likely to be a fine than anything approaching a ban.
