Big questions to be answered after awful Irons defeat

West Ham 2 Leicester City 3

Lanzini – magnificent goal – great performance

Here’s the truth of it….if you don’t start playing until you are 3-1 down you don’t generally deserve anything although the Hammers might argue differently after this defeat.

To say they battered the Foxes after the break does an injustice to the word but their first half performance had been quite awful and the mountain was too high.

Two soft goals early on from an unintended cross from Mahrez and a set piece converted by Huth rocked a team that has been leaving the back door open all season.

A quite beautiful Payet-like free kick from Lanzini reduced the deficit but Vardy pushed the visitors further ahead before the break with a simple effort.

Ayew again reduced the lead with a header set up by Carroll’s knock back from the far post before the Hammers truly smashed into the opposition.

Schemichel made two extraordinary saves from Carroll and the number of goalmouth incidents grew by the minute but it all came to nothing and at the end of it all we suffered out seventh defeat of the season at the LS.

It wasn’t good enough …indeed if we are truly honest it was a total mess for 70 minutes and along the way Obiang appeared to suffer a significant ankle injury and Reid limped off early.

Thankfully, Watford were beaten and Burnley’s draw wasn’t enough to lift them above us but there are far too many question marks over this hugely inconsistent West Ham team.

And I am starting to have my first fears that the board will be trying to answer them during the international break because two games from which most expected six or a minimum four points have slipped away in back to back defeats.

It’s simply not good enough and whichever way you look at it solutions have to be found before the next crucial game because despite most of the teams below us failing to capitalise we simply don’t look organised or too capable right now and that may well mean real bother before too long.

I fear Slav may well be looking over his shoulder in more ways than one!
