Slaven Bilic is determined to bring in players who will “make a difference ” this summer.

The manager is planning for Liverpool today knowing that thus far this season only one of his squad – Manu Lanzini – can genuinely fit into that category.

But he is determined to see that change declaring:  “We’ve got to get players who can make a difference.”

In the case of the Argentinian playmaker, a longer contract may well be on the cards with the manager adding: “We have a chairman who says: ‘Show me, and I will give you a contract.’”

That has already been proven with the likes of Aaron Cresswell and Antonio being offered new deals after performing well in the side.

Among those who could help the cause are Jermain Defoe but only it looks as a back-up striker with the manager saying: “Defoe is a very interesting player – even those big clubs are thinking about him as back-up. But this is home.”

A clause in his contract means Defoe will be a free agent this summer.
