Winston Reid has rejoined the first team squad and is expected to be available for the spikey little affair against Sunderland at the  weekend.

And word from the training camp is that Sam Allardyce could be confronted with Andy Carroll on whom he splashed an incredible £17 million when he was Irons boss to make him the club’s record signing.

However, the game will come too soon for Diafra Sakho who, although he is working incredibly hard into the afternoon, won’t be fit for the game according to our sources.

We were told: “Sak is more likely to be available for the match at Everton although he would love to believe he will be in the running for the Spurs game.”

Reid’s return is bad news for Allardyce who in an interview earlier in the season described him in glowing terms leaving the distinct impression that he was the top Irons man at the back.

Carroll too is set for his return with a source saying: “It wasn’t a big problem and as things look now he should be fit.”

Sunderland remain in the bottom three with Allardyce’s record of never having been relegated very much under threat.
