West Ham Vice-Chairman Karren Brady is not against the modernisation of the Premier League and/or European football but she is against efforts to insert a monopoly and cartel to protect those already at the top of the game.

In the latest leak on a European Super League 11 clubs would be labelled as “core founding” clubs and would become  “immune to relegation” for 20 years. Brady discusses the subject in her latest Sun football column

Football finance expert Kieran Maguire from Price of Football has suggested the leak of’ ‘Project Big Picture’ followed by ‘European super league’ proposals is a clever ploy by American owned Manchester United and Liverpool in keeping some lesser kind of reform in the Premier League.

He suggests that the threat of big reforms allows a later lesser proposal to be better supported and to pass by football stakeholders. That lesser proposal is likely to insist on a reduction of the Premier League to eighteen clubs.

One thing is for sure, any proposal will insist that rich clubs with the power stay rich while keeping those currently outside the top six firmly where they belong.
