Calleri loan deal makes sense

The Jonathan Calleri loan rumours have all the hallmarks of a typical David Sullivan deal.

We know Mr Sullivan likes a South American player as they are cheaper in terms of wages and transfer fees when compared to their European counterparts.

I could see a similar deal  to the one that bought Manuel Lanzini to West Ham from Al Jazira last season. Lanzini was on a weekly wage of around £25,ooo a week whilst on loan with West Ham but was rewarded with a new permanent deal of around £40,000 per week basic plus appearance and goal bonuses.  The pre-arranged transfer fee for Lanzini amounted to nearly £9m which was a bargain in the current market.

West Ham could use Lanzini as a lynch pin to persuade Calleri to join the Hammers rather than Sevilla, the two have been selected for the Argentinian Olympic team in Rio and will soon join up for training.

The 22 year old recently flew to Italy to resolve some issues relating to his Italian passport which means a work permit would not be required.
