Sir Trevor Brooking has handed Slaven Bilic’s West Ham an EIGHT rating after their flying start to the season.

The club legend though has told the fans to give the manager “at least a season” before becoming agitated at what they believe may be wrong with the set-up.

In an exclusive interview with ClaretandHugh Sir Trevor declared: “Obviously the home form has been worrying but in the case of Leicester and Bournemouth we saw two teams push forward their wide men to stop our full backs.

“There have also been  mistakes but once that stops we are going to be absolutely fine. Slaven had a very difficult pre-season and to have brought us to where we are is great.

“He needs – like all managers – at least a season before anyone passes a judgement on him. He is looking good to me though and bringing in a passing game we all want to see.”

Sir Trevor believes that Dimitri Payet and Diafra Sakho have probably been our consistently top performers declaring: Whether Diitri plays central or wide he he is a proper player. Let’s noy campare him to anybody at this stage. He is his own man and player.

“But Diafra has been outstanding. He never stops running and working and creating the space for other players like Payet and Lanzini. He’s a fine prospect.”

Brooking added that in Bilic we  have a manager who is determined to play the style of football traditionally associated with out club and added: “He’s a good manager and a fine man.

He knows how important this particular season is and the aim now is to stay in that top ten which I think is very possible.

I’d have to rate the srart he and the team have made at a seven or right. Once those mistakes have been cut out we will really be on our way.”
