United do have the highest wage bill in England and can afford to shell out to keep their big squad sweet.

A United insider said: “Jesse is already on good money but there is another  financial reality for anyone trying to put a deal together for him. United have an excellent bonus structure in place that is the envy of most clubs.

“Jesse finds himself in a strong position with only a year left on his contract, but his primary goal is to be playing regular and that money isn’t his main driver at this stage in his career.”
