Captain Dec going big on Hammers striker

Seb Haller has been getting too much stick because he has a personality difference to most modern footballers.

He’s of course – as has been widely discussed – not a smiler or celebration man…he has a job to do and clearly wants to do it efficiently and without too much fuss and bother.

He scored a belter on Sunday and made right nuisance of himself at times. What more do you want? Seemingly, laughter, smiles at least and major celebrations preferably.

Even VAR apparently can’t stop the wild and often premature celebrations – seems to me Seb may just be ahead of the curve.

I come from the Mooro era and I honestly can’t recall my still hero getting involved in all that over the top and often infantile stuff – too cool, too classy.

Whenever I saw him score he abruptly turned -walked calmly back to his own half and let the rest of ’em do the semi manic stuff. Seb’s in very good company.

Mind you that was a period where we tended to pat each other on the back rather than hug, kiss and get involved in choreographed dance routines when the ball hit the back of the net.

In the meantime new skipper Declan Rice has been showing proper leadership qualities by coming to the support of a guy who deserves the same from the rest of us right now.

Discussing his contribution of late he said: Seb has been unbelievable since he’s come back. It seems like his confidence is back.

We know his qualities and that’s what we saw at Frankfurt, he pretty much scores every time, so we need to keep giving him the ball and he will continue to be a threat.”

A fit and firing Haller is precisely who is getting plenty of support what we need at the moment – well said Dec!
