Carroll: ‘Deep down the fans love me’

Andy Carroll knows that despite his ups and downs at West Ham the fans love him deep down anyway.

The club has announced that AC will be leaving the club along with Adrian, Sami Nasri and Toni Martinez and in his final farewell the striker has revealed his feelings about the departure.

Speaking to www.whufc.com he said: ““It’s been up and down, but there have been a lot of positives.

“I’ve grown as a person. I came as a young kid and two things that have come out of it really, both relationships, first with the team and players, and secondly with my partner. I met her down here and we have two unbelievable kids.

“Obviously the West Ham fans have been great and it’s very similar to a family relationship. Some days they like you and some days they loathe you, but deep down you know they love you, so it’s kind of the same!

“I’m just disappointed at the way it has ended. It’s been tough, a roller-coaster for the last seven years, up and down, a lot of injuries which couldn’t be helped for one reason or another, but I’ve enjoyed my time at West Ham.

“It’s just been tough with the injuries, not only for me, but for the players I’ve played with, the managers and the fans.”

ClaretandHugh says: It would be out of order to continue the criticism of AC at this point. Instead better to thank him for what he has been able to provide when fully fit and within a team pattern that suited him rather than harp on about the injuries – none of which he will invited upon himself. ClaretandHugh’s ratings man Niall McDonald summed up the feelings of most when he wrote on the site’s FB page: “Carroll’s bicycle kick against Palace is the greatest goal I’ve ever seen live, and the hat trick game against Arsenal was one of the finest centre forward displays i can remember seeing. Shame we never saw him at his best much much more often.” That of course will be the abiding memory of the man and it’s a shame because at his best he was often unplayable. What the future holds for him is of course entirely uncertain as he remains injured at the moment and my bet is we can expect to see him training at the club ahead of a move to the US of A. We wish him well.
