Andy Carroll has made it clear he wants to win a new contract at West Ham.

Instead of triggering the two year option on his deal it seems AC has realised it’s more likely a new deal will be drawn up if indeed the club decide that’s the way to go.

The striker was warned by manager Manuel Pellegrini last week that he needed to demonstrate that he was worth a deal and played his first meaningful part on the pitch yesterday (Sat) when he arrived as a sub for Lucas Perez.

He is still some way from full fitness obviously but now has half a season to show that he is ready to continue his Hammers career.

However it’s a scenario which will split fans following his many injury problem which are bound to cause a few furrowed brows among, Pellegrini, his staff and the board as they muse over Carroll or splashing out on a new striker.

Carroll told Talksport: “It’s important for me to get back playing,  get back fully fit and show that I deserve another deal here. Be great if I can get it, if not, then we’ll see what happens.

But at the moment I am focused on staying here and that’s where my head is at.”
