Carroll/Sakho injuries: What’s going on?

Andy Carroll was injured on August 18 against Astra in the Europa League qualifying game when we were told he would return within four to six weeks.

That would have seen him back in action last weekend yet we are still waiting and thus the latest medical update becomes  a bit of a poser.

This is from head of medical and sports science Stijn Vandenbrouck on the official site: “Andy Carroll is continuing his rehab following the knee injury he suffered in the UEFA Europa League tie in Romania in August.

“He is working as hard as he can on the pitch and in the gym, making progress.

“Andy has a few bridges to cross before he can join in first team training.” A few bridges to cross doesn’t sound great does it?

Sakho, meanwhile is reported to be pain free and “close” to the required fitness levels. In fact he’s been close to them apparently for the past three weeks and appears to have got stuck because from all accounts he remains behind Carroll.

The situation on him apparantly is that: “Diafra Sakho is also undertaking his own pre-season, working very hard on his fitness levels with a view to join the squad on the pitch. “ How many stones overweight was he exactly????

We are now two months into the season and seems as far away as ever from seeing a return by the pair.

Will somebody please tell us what the hell is going on exactly!
