Speculation on Maxi Gomez have reached fever pitch today both in Spain and the UK as the media try to second guess what is going on as West Ham try to hijack the deal Valencia agreed with Celtra Vigo yesterday for the 25-year-old striker.

One local Valencia newspaper called Super Deporte claiming problems with Gomez’s agent Jonathan Barnet could kill the deal by asking Valencia to match the wages his client would receive at the London Stadium and the commission he would have received from West Ham.

The same newspaper claimed that West Ham were now favourites to land the striker and a medical could happen in London this weekend.

Spanish were not going to take that laying down and rival paper ElDesmarque Valencia have published their own report, claiming there’s been no further movement from West Ham in the past few hours.

They say Valencia are still confident in landing their man and add that Celta Vigo has asked their player if he wants to take the extra wages from West Ham and he has ‘dismissed the option’. They say West Ham ‘will not achieve their objective’ for two reasons. Firstly Gomez is happy with his life in Spain and has no language issues and secondely Valencia is able to offer him Champions League football which West Ham can’t.

The saga should be sorted in the next twenty-four hours one way or the other so we should all be put out of misery soon and be able to move on.
