Congratulations to one of best ever Irons signings

Mikey Antonio’s Premier League Player of the month award nails it once and for all – he’s a striker.

And given that Slaven Bilic once said he could be the best right back in the PL it’s hard to suppress a smile but given the former boss signed him in the first place he’s forgiven.

Mikey has of course played left and right wings before being thrown into the central striker role as a result of Seb Haller’s injury after the break.

And he admits that it was listening to some advice from David Moyes that helped him to find the goals to ensure the Irons survival.

The manager, well aware that he likes to drift left and right, told him to stay central and concentrate on being in the penalty area. Simple advice maybe but much needed and what a result.

It’s hard not to argue that the 30 year old Hammer hasn’t been one of our best signings in many years at a mere £7 million – cheap even back then – and that Slav signed the former Forest midfielder is part of the legacy he left at this club.

It also backs the Moyes view – even five years on – that there are top players in the English leagues and I for one am happy that we are again looking in that area this summer.

Thanks Slav and congratulations from everybody at ClaretandHugh.
